TheTorchOnline.com confirmed the cancellation of the syndicated fantasy show Legend of the Seeker back in May, but that hasn’t stopped an intrepid group of fans who have organized at SaveOurSeeker.com to continue to advocate for another season for the series.
Since ABC/Disney, which produced the show, will not be producing a third season, these fans have concentrated on finding another producing entity to take it over. They’ve raised almost $25,000 to date, which they’ve used to place ads in Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and on a bus shelter in Burbank.
They’re also doing email and Twitter campaigns, fan videos, and online petition, and plan to have a presence at the upcoming Dragon-Con convention in Atlanta.
“I think it’s incredible what they’re doing,” says Mary D. Brooks, the webmaster of a number of Seeker-themed websites.
Such fan campaigns have been successful before with other syndicated shows: once Xena: Warrior Princess seemed doomed to cancellation, but fans rallied and ended up bringing it back for another season.
But to date, there has been no public movement toward the possibility of a third season for Seeker.

They’re sure moving forward with selling Season 2 DVD’s. Could soaring DVD sales help the series’ cancellation be reversed? I know that the studio claims its not renewing, but they’ve made it virtually impossible for anyone to pick it up. Why else would all these other distributors (like Syfy, Starz) be “outbid”?
It doesn’t add up. I still have hope that we haven’t seen the last of LOTS.
Legend of the Seeker is/was the BEST show on TV! I’m so hoping somebody pick it up! Save our Seeker!
Personally, I’m not a LotS fan - I did watch it til ep. 14 of the second season and got simply bored to death (though I do miss Cara an awful lot). However, I’m impressed by the fans and the huge effort they’re making, I hope they can bring it back. I totally feel you guys. After all, Russell T. Davies did kill Ianto Jones from Torchwood - for no reason at all! - and won’t bring him back into the series. It’s a pity, and apparently he’s determined not to listen to the fans :/ So I hope at least you guys can make a difference! All the best :)
I think the fan’s efforts are impressive, but I’m not sure there is any real likelihood of a third season (as much as I wish it was otherwise).
However, a few movie-length DVDs (perhaps shown on TV first for extra revenue) like the later SG-1 movies could work and I would definitely buy those DVDs. It would also be a great way to continue the series since we know they’d bring their A-grade if they only had 3 or 4 “movies” left in the series.
I’m just one of the millions of fans around this world trying to save Legend of the Seeker. It makes the world just a little smaller when you realizes this show speaks to the soul of so many. I want to thank you for taking the time to write another article on our campaign. It touches my heart that you’ve taken the time to do it and see that it is news worthy.
Thanks again.
Thank you for writing this article. The Legend of the Seeker fandom is far from finished fighting to save our show. We appreciate the support, and this kind of article really gets the message out there that we have not given up. Each day the Save our Seeker campaign gains new, followers because of this kind of exposure! Thanks again! #SaveourSeeker
There must be a 3rd season of Seeker. I don’t understand ABC’s attitude. They don’t want to produce a 3rd season and yet they won’t sell the rights to someone else? What the hell is wrong with them? Why can’t they just put it on their own network? They don’t think it will make them profit, which I think is ludicrous. Well, I can tell you that they won’t make profit with it just sitting there on the shelf letting the dust build up.
I\’m not sure it\’s an issue of them not wanting to sell the rights as much as that they can\’t find a buyer. Like Sammy said below, it\’s a costly series to make — which is why the show always looked so good — and that can be a turn-off for a network when the show never had the kind of mainstream success that other shows have.
So what are you saying? We’re just wasting our time with this whole campaign? We should just give up, throw in the towel? Is that it?
And the drama queen award goes to …
Look, I loved the show, too, but good shows get unjustly canceled all the time. The only way the show could have been saved is if it made a significant amount of money in DVD sales, but the “Save our Seeker” campaign never focused on that, instead trying to prove people were passionate about the show. Passion doesn’t equal sales, unfortunately.
It’s a bummer, but it’s just a TV show. When I think of all the money the Save Our Seeker campaign raised that could have gone to people in need, it really bums me out. Thousands of people still homeless from Katrina, and they raise thousands of dollars for ads in Variety. How irrelevant. How thoughtless.
now that season 2 has a release date, maybe the focus will shift to dvd sales. - having tried to focus on that from the start would have been pointless because most fans already owned season 1.
as for your comment about money that could be going to help people in need, the amount of money raised by SOS is just a drop in the bucket. and there are plenty of other much larger wastes of money out there.
You have to call it for what it is. Advocating aggressively for a TV show to be renewed and raising thousands upon thousands of dollars is unbelievably selfish. Galvanizing activity for something as irrelevant as simple entertainment is shameful, and the work of people of privilege who don’t care enough about their fellow man to consider where else that money could have gone.
Okay, Henry, you’ve expressed your opinion. There’s no reason to be a jerk about it. If you don’t feel the need to support their cause, don’t do it, but I see absolutely no reason to be mean-spirited and personal about it.
I know great shows get unjustly cancelled all the time. But I have never truly felt this upset about a great show being cancelled. LOTS is like Star Trek. I think that one day, this show will be looked back upon and they’ll wonder why it was cancelled.
Star Trek got resurrected from the ashed. I can’t say that Seeker will get the same treatment. But I will say that they have this once chance in history to make things right and honor the fans request for another season. That’s all we want, is for this show to keep going now that awareness of it has hit its peak.
The fact that they won’t sell the rights so easily makes me scratch me head. Maybe they’re having a change of heart? Perhaps season 2 DVD sales is what they’re waiting to see…
They won’t say officially what they’re really thinking…but somehow I suspect they’re holding out for some reason. That could be a little bit of wishful thinking, but it is a logical conclusion.
I know that cost has a big part to do with it. This show is appearantly very expensive, at about $1.5 million per episode. But you know what? It’s also one of the best shows I have ever seen.
I am shocked that all attempts to pick up the show have failed. From SyFy to Starz, they keep getting “outbid”. Why would ABC/Disney make it so hard for others to pick up a show they’re no longer interested in producing?
Maybe they’re waiting to see how the Season 2 DVD sells. Or maybe there will be a movie or mini-series. Whatever the case, with all this support for the show, I can’t shake the feeling it will return in one form or another.
Terry Goodkind has offered his support to the SOS movement, which is another positive for sure.
We will keep fighting.

Hai, link for fan videos does not working unless it’s intended to lead to petition, btw as seeker fan, I appreciate this mentions, and I’m positive about at least one more season of this awesome show :)

Eventually we will be heard if not already!
Again, Thanks :)
Still wondering why would you put “confirmed the cancellation” in bold. It’s like indirectly you’re trying to take the motivation left in us. It’s what I get from it.. I may be wrong though.
Because I’m linking to a previous article, which is pretty much standard in all websites. All links are bolded, as you can see in the article.
Please understand that TheTorchOnline.com is not a fan site. We report the news as we uncover it, positive and negative. If you are worried that bad news is going to depress or discourage you, I honestly encourage you not to come here.
Sara, do you realize when you write stupid comments like that, it just undermines your cause?
Save Our Seeker! We won’t give up! :D
Please bring back Legend of the Seeker. It’s my favorite show. I LOVED IT! So amazing. Best thing that was on TV. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BRING IT BACK! :’(
