From the Palantir! Fantasy Pumpkins, TROLL HUNTER is Coming, and a Movie Based on … the Ouija Board?

Posted on 20 October 2010 by Brent Hartinger, Editor

  • After surviving an expected shut-down a year ago, Realms of Fantasy, the fantasy magazine, is finally no more: a victim of the bad economy and (I would add) a radically changed media landscape.
  • I’m never as excited about “deleted scenes” as other people seem to be (they always seem to me to have been deleted for a reason!), but here’s one from Avatar.
  • Glee is doing a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed ep, and now the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, might re-make the movie.
  • Fifteen fantasy or sci-fi novels that publishers repeatedly rejected. Wow, a couple of my all-time favorites, including Left Hand of Darkness, Dune, and Octavia Butler’s first book.
  • Oh, Lord, a movie based on the Ouija Board. That’s it, no story yet, just somehow “based on” the game. That’s like saying a movie “based on a handkerchief.”

It greatly angers me that Glee is desecrating– I mean, covering– Rocky Horror songs. If a bunch of square Glee viewers start coming to RH shows just because of Glee, I’m going to be gravely disappointed. A remake would pretty much destroy all my faith in humanity. Seriously, leave RHPS to be its wicked, fabulous self.

(Also: it makes me immensely happy that RHPS is mentioned on this site. It is sci-fi after all!)

Weavers’ idea Aliens 5 sounds great.

I’d happily watch an older Ripley kicking azz. If Helen Mirren can kick azz in Red, then surely the cinema’s first lady of kick azz, the one and only Weaver, can continue kicking azz for as long as she wants to.

The rumoured casting for the Alien prequel is ridiculously good. Portman. Franco. Hathaway. Etc. The script must be something amazing if these talented people are truly interested in being cast.

Glee’s Rocky Horror sounds far, far too sanitised. Of course, I’ll still be tuning in, but it will be a shame to see all the “shock” value of the original removed.
