Australian Actor Liam McIntyre Chosen as New Spartacus

Posted on 17 January 2011 by Brent Hartinger, Editor

Liam McIntyre, who had long been rumored to be one of the leading contenders to replace the ailing Andy Whitfield as the lead in Starz’ Spartacus TV series, has been officially given the part.

Like Whitfield, who he vaguely resembles, McIntyre is an Australian and mostly unknown to American audiences. His most prominent credit may be  a role in the TV mini-series The Pacific.

McIntyre has reportedly been in intense training for the role for weeks now, an indication that the decision was made some time ago, media reports to the contrary notwithstanding.

Really? Dominic looks nothing like Andy.

Is Spartacus: Gods of the Arena being covered/reviewed here at thetorchonline.com or only at afterelton.com?

I like to anonymously publish my random thoughts and dull criticisms online for others to ignore and I can’t seem to get the comment function working at afterelton.com.

Great news! I’m looking forward to season 2, but thankfully the prequel with copious amounts of Batiatus and Lucretia is just around the corner!

I saw a rumor report last week that said it might be Dominic Purcell and I was REALLY excited about the re-cast. Now, not so much.
