We have to go back!
For everyone who’s stuck it out all these years, the payoff is about to come. Or, at least, it better, if J.J. Abrams wants to live long enough to make the Star Trek sequel.
In 2004, Lost came out of nowhere and made a huge impact on a television landscape dominated by broody procedural dramas. Its central mystery of the Island and its kooky inhabitants combined with some good, old-school monster-movie suspense earned it an immediate and impressive fanbase, with some people heralding the ensemble show as the next X-Files.
While at times infuriatingly slow with its revelations, by season five the show has given us many answers to many questions, but the big ones remain: What is the origin of the Island? Why were all of the crash survivors connected? And who/what is Jacob and his nameless nemesis?
At this point, we know that it’s somehow connected to Ancient Egypt. Ever since we saw that the statue on the Island is Taweret, an Egyptian goddess, and that Jacob’s chamber is decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphs, we know something Nile-ish is up.
My guess? Jacob and his nemesis are Egyptian gods, locked in some sort of eternal power struggle, until the nemesis figures out a way to beat him. At any rate, by this time next year we’ll all have finally learned the secrets of the Island. Kind of a strange feeling, isn’t it? I’m so excited for the final season. I’m going to miss having it to look forward to, but I’ll glad to finally - FINALLY - find out what’s been going on all these years. :)
You’re right, Lost was frustrating at times. I stopped watching when they got down into the hatch. Anyway, thanks to Netflix I gave it another chance. I pushed through those first episodes of season two. Man, I’m glad I did. I can’t wait to find out what the island is all about. Egyptians, I don’t know. Maybe… We’ll see. But even if it isn’t as captivating as I hope, I’m all about another Abrams Star Trek!
