From the Palantir! (A Fantasy News Round-Up)

  • The last Predator movie came out two years ago, which means, of course, that it’s time for a “reboot.” Robert Rodriguez will direct Adrian Brody and (probably) Topher Grace.  I’ve always thought the rights-holders of the Predator franchise were particularly craven, and this pretty much proves it.
  • So Paramount is asking “fans” if they want Paranormal Activity to get a wide release. If this site gets a million hits, it will. Uh huh. Cause this is how studios make decisions like this.
  • In a slightly more organic online campaign, Harry Potter fans are trying to encourage a release of an indie film, Cherrybomb starring Rupert Grint, which has yet to secure a distributor. The film is a major departure for the actor, showing his character taking drugs and, ahem, in a nude bedroom scene. I’m detecting a trend here among Harry Potter actors: establish acting credibility by dropping trou. Emma Watson, resist!
  • Howard Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings will get the full live symphony treatment at Radio City Music Hall.
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has officially made $300 million in the US, making it the second highest-grossing film in the series. The top film, Sorcerer’s Stone, grossed $317 million. World-wide, Half-Blood Prince has grossed $928 million.
  • Ben Barnes talks about how they’ve given the upcoming The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie more a plot (because — let’s face it — it doesn’t really have one): “They’ve stolen a couple of ideas from some of the later [Chronicles of Narnia] books. [It’s] a very difficult book to adapt, because it’s very episodic. It’s chapter by chapter. They go on the voyage, they go to one island, a bit more voyage, another island, a bit more voyage, another island. It’s very satisfying to read; every chapter by chapter, it’s very exciting. But it has no real through line. And so they have to kind of steal other elements to sew it all together. I think they’ve done it in a really clever, unobtrusive way.”
  • Seven (possibly) good things about the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are movie.

  1. At the risk that this will sound dreadful coming from me, I think Rupert Grint is growing up to be rather hot. I was terrified he’d be stuck with the pudding-face for the rest of his years!

Hey, I’m married and older, but I ain’t dead, and I live in teenaged heads a lot.

  2. Emily Watson is also a British actress, interestingly enough. She’s actually pretty awesome. It’s fun to think of her playing Hermione…hmm, on the other hand, maybe not. :)

  3. Shieldmaiden says:

who’s Emily Watson? if you’re referring to the actress playing Hermione Granger, her name is EMMA Watson, not Emily.
