From the Palantir! (A Fantasy News Round-Up)

Posted on 22 July 2009 by Brent Hartinger, Editor

  • The ratings for NBC’s Merlin are up a bit, but don’t break out the champagne just yet — it’s only a slight uptick. Still, this probably means that the show will avoid the fate of The Listener, which was canceled before the network had even aired all the existing episodes.
  • Should die-hard Harry Potter book fans even bother with the movies?
  • Comedy Central is making a movie version of the hilarious (but decidedly “adult”) cartoon parody Drawn Together.
  • Sam Raimi (Xena: Warrior Princess, Spiderman, and The Evil Dead movies) will direct the World of Warcraft movie, Warcraft. Score!
  • I’ve been wondering how long it would be before they brought Sinbad back!

YAY! Sinbad. I highly enjoy the old school Sinbad movies. It looks like it might be slightly more authentic than Jake Gyllenhall’s “Prince of Persia” (although to be fair, the latter is based on a video game).

I understand why many fans are disappointed by the latest Harry Potter film installment, but I am one of those rare people who loved the book AND the movie (minus a few stupid scenes). I’ll definitely keep watching the movies. I think of them as separate entities from the books. (Same goes for Watchmen.)

Very excited to see Hobbiton again. Please please let the movie go ahead on schedule!

I’ll try not to get my hopes too high about Merlin. At least I know for sure there will be a second series in the UK, even if NBC doesn’t want it. :)
